Before 1831, the foundation of this cemetery , the death of a person that was a non Roman catholic christian in Spain was a big problem because in Málaga the local custom prohibited the burials of
any non Román catholic during daylight hours, and specified that they were taken down to the seashore at night and put the body on the mercy of the waven and the animals.
In 1839, Willian Mark was given a plot of waste land by the authorities.
This was the first cemetery for non Román catholic christian in Spain.
The first person to be buried in the cemetery was Mr. George stephiens and one year later the first
person to be buried within the walled cemetery was Robert Boyd.
